| It's been an interesting couple of weeks. On February 20th I was feeling abit dizzy at work but didn't think anything of it really. On the 21st we went to downtown Orlando for an exhibit about Jim Henson at the Orange County History Center. By the end of the day I wasn't feeling quiet right. Sunday I helped at kids church and finished my day off feeling really dizzy. Monday I stayed home due to dizzyness and decided to go to the doctor where they diagnosed me with Labrynthitis, which basically causes nausea and vertigo. I continued to stay home on my back and gradually get worse. Finally I went to a specialist on Thursday where they confirmed what the first doctor said but explained it a little further as a viral infection of my inner ear. They gave me some drugs and sent me on my way, clearing me from work until Monday. On Friday I tried going to Wal-Mart and the flouresant lights made my vision go crazy. Saturday rolled around and I decided to try my luck going to Megacon which we had already paid for. I did ok there for about 4 hours before calling it quits. Sunday I helped at church not feeling well at all, although by then I had stopped feeling like i had been spinning and more like I had been spinning for a week and suddenly stopped....so now I was nauseous. I went to a friends surprise party and spralled out on the couch the whole time. Monday I stayed home again hoping to be rested and ready to return to work on Tuesday. On Tuesday I went back to work and nearly fell off the stage during the Mushu show, what a sight that woulda been. About 4 hours into my day, my managers sent me to health services. Since I had been gone for 6 working days i had to get cleared to work. There I felt uneasy and after having working restrictions placed on me I returned to work. I decided to call my doctor to see how I should be handling how I currently feel and he told me to stay home for another week.....so......here I am deep into week #2 of staying home and being board out of my mind. I've watched a ton of TV and read my entire copy of Watchmen (as long as im not walking around or standing im fine). So that's whats been happening in my life, hopefully yours is better. | Currently In Bruges By Colin Farrell, Brendan Gleeson, Ralph Fiennes, Mark Donovan, Ann Elsley see related |

| http-equiv="CONTENT-TYPE" content="text/html; charset=utf-8"> name="GENERATOR" content="OpenOffice.org 3.0 (Win32)"> MERRY CHRISTMAS!!! Happy Holidays everyone!! This year has been both an amazing one and a frustrating one. In the beginning of the year Amanda got a job at Disney as a test engineer. She is responsible for testing the rides for safety at all the Disney parks worldwide. Traveling is part of the job, in May she spent the entire month testing the rides at California's Disneyland parks. I was able to fly out for a couple days and spend our Anniversary with her. She adores her job, even though her hours aren't always the best. For me the first half of the year was particularly rough. My time working at Splash Mountain was beginning to take a toll on my body. My legs weren't particularly fond of the six day seventy plus hour work weeks. In March, one of my favorite people in the world, my 26 year old, mother of two, cousin-in-law Rebekah Sauter passed away in her sleep from unknown causes. It took a toll on our family and friends. We are blessed to know she is with the Lord in Heaven. In May, my spirits were lifted when I finally got my dream job as a Disney artist. I currently spend my days teaching interested guests how to draw their favorite characters. We've had plenty of visitors this year. The majority of our Oregon friends made a trip out to see us as well as small portions of our families. We traveled a little as well. We were able to spend Easter in Portland with our friends and family. Amanda was able to see her parents and brother in May when they made a trip down to see her when she was working in California. Then in July I made a solo trip out to Oregon to see a Ringo Starr concert with my good friend Mike while Amanda was in North Carolina doing work related training. In October we traveled to Montana for my Dad's wedding, and managed to spend time with everyone in my family. The Florida weather is always wonderful. I laughed a little when we had a tropical storm blow through and people were worried about 30 mile an hour winds. That's like a light breeze for a Montana boy. We've been thankful for rain that has an end and is always warm, plus lightning is awesome! We've been actively looking for houses with the help of our good friend Erin, and we hope to find one and move in early in the year. I have to say, looking for houses can be very stressful and nerve-racking at times. This is currently a buyers market, so finding a good house shouldn't be too much of a problem. We hope that everyone has a wonderful Christmas and an Amazing 2009 filled with all of God's blessings. Love, Brian and Amanda Fichtner | | |
| Well my friends the day has finally arrived...I am officially making a living as an artist...and a Disney artist no less. I've been working at the attraction for a good month and a half now, but didn't start my artist training until two weeks ago and finally checked out as an artist last Thursday. Training was grueling...I spent 8 hours a day drawing and occasionally threw in a little bit of watching old disney cartoon shorts. Mickey, by the way, is believe it or not one of the hardest characters to draw....or should I say draw correctly. Alot goes into Mickey and everything has to be exactly a certain size and distance from everything else. Donald was my second character to learn properly and I picked him up in about 2 days....probably due to him being my favorite character. Then I learned Pluto which took about half a day. For those that don't understand what I do exactly, I'll break it down. My attraction is inside the very large and spacious Animation building which, until 2004, was actually used to make animated movies. The department closed around the same time you started seeing nothing but computer animated movies (like Chicken Little, the Wild, Meet the Robinsons...etc) not counting Pixar who are a separate entity (oh and btw, Shrek is not a Disney movie). The attraction used to give you a guided tour through the building (with the help of Robin Williams and Walter Cronkite) and show you the real animators at work (Mulan, Lilo and Stitch, and Brother Bear were all made entirely in Florida). Now the attraction starts with a show about how animated characters are created. If you wanna see it go to Youtube and type in Drawn to Animation show. After that you walk through a gallery (currently featuring Wall-e) and head into our "Animation Station" where we have character meet and greets with Sorcerer Mickey and the Incredibles. Then you can go into the classroom and learn how to draw in the "Animation Academy"(which is what I now do). Basically every 30 minutes, 40 to 50 guests enter the classroom and have a seat at a lighted drawing table, then the artist (thats me) sits up at the front of the class at a drawing table with a fixed camera attached to it and for 22 minutes we walk the guests through step-by-step how to draw the head of a Disney character. These include Mickey, Donald, Goofy, Pluto, Minnie, Daisy, Pooh, Tigger, Stitch, Eeyore, Scrooge, Chip and Dale, and Jiminy Cricket. Theres a different character drawn each half hour. Then the guests leave with their drawing as a free souvenier. So far I love it. There's nothing like a little boy or girl wandering up to you when the class is over, looking at you with wide eyes, rocking back and forth with their drawing in hand, and either asking you for your drawing or just asking for you're autograph or to have a picture with you. It's an amazing experience. Hopefully that clarifies exactly what I do. I do not make cartoons, so please dont expect to see my name on any credits anytime soon...right now I just make Magic;) |

| Well I've been at my new job for 2 weeks now. My training for the show portion of the attraction was nerve racking at best. I had to memorize 16 pages of material. I never had to memorize anything in my life. Amazingly after 4 days I had it...at least enough to pass my assessment. So now everyday I get up on stage and have a conversation with the little red dragon Mushu (from Mulan) for about 10 minutes at a time. I'm hoping I get my artist training soon so I can start that portion of the job, after all that is what i transferred to do. Hollywood Studios is proving to be way different than the Magic Kingdom as far as backstage atmosphere and politics go. Its still amazing to me that I can walk into a cast bathroom at Studios and its actually clean with no graffiti on the walls. The guests act a little differently when it comes to my type of attraction than they do with the rides. My attraction overall is a short pre-show followed by a couple of animation galleries, a character meet and greet surrounded by interactive games and activities, the 20 minute Animation Academy where we teach you how to draw, and finally another gallery and the gift shop. I still get death threats, only this time its when I tell guests they can't bring strollers into the building. We offer a gajillion places to park strollers and most of the attractions don't let you take them inside anyway...once again I think its just another case of frazzled parents on vacation saying very irrational things. Or there are just alot of people that go to Disney and enjoy making death threats wherever they go. Maybe its their hobby...and who am i to tell someone they can't enjoy their hobby. Some people like to knit..others like to tell people they're going to kill them. To each their own. | | |
| Well its been a while since i've posted anything that wasnt depressing so here I go. I finally got my transfer to Animation over at Disney's Hollywood Studios!!!! At long last I will be a professional Disney artist...I start Tuesday. In other news, the last few months have been HORRIBLE!!! March and April were possibly the worst months I've ever had. I was put on a 6 day 70 to 80 hour a week work schedule. I saw Amanda an average of 6 waking hours a week...it was terrible. March also saw death in the family and a not so great homecoming to Portland including a very solumn Easter. Amanda was sent to do tests at Disneyland on May 5th for the entire month, so I've been bacheloring it up...theres a reason I got married, I hate being a bachelor. I got to visit her for 4 days this past weekend for our anniversary. It was great but short and I got to hit Disneyland and California Adventure while I was there. Well, with the promotion everything is looking up...I do have to memorize some lines though so lets hope that goes well. ttyl | | |
